The Huldra are beautiful forest creatures. The tales tell that a woman had washed only half of her children when a god came to her woodland cabin; ashamed of the dirty ones, she hid them. The god decreed that those she had hidden from him would be hidden from humanity. They became the Huldra. They are the unexplained noises in the shifting, creaking forest, the sensation of being watched from the undergrowth, and half-seen glimpses of human forms between the trees.
